| PP_53 | That Ann Walton (53) was the mother of Richard Norris (26) | ||||
| Richard Norris was born in Liverpool in 1843, the son of Richard Norris, a teacher and Ann Norris formerly Walton. | PP_26 | ||||
| Richard Norris, a teacher, and Ann Walton were married in St. Peter, Liverpool in 1837. | Marriage | ||||
| Ann the wife of Richard Norris is listed in the 1851 census as aged 32, and born (c. 1818) in St. Helens, Lancs. with husband Richard Norris, teacher, aged 38, her daughter Ann 12, son Richard 8, son John 5 and daughter Rachel 5. | 1851 Census | ||||
| The 1851 census has a John Walton, teacher, aged 37 (born c. 1813), born in St Helens, Lancs., a possible brother of Ann. | 1851 Census | ||||
| A John Walton, teacher, is also found in the 1841 census, aged 25 (born c. 1815), the son of John Walton, shoemaker, aged 55 (born c. 1785), with mother Ann aged 50 (born c. 1790), sister Elizabeth aged 20 (born c. 1820), and brother Joseph aged 17 (born c. 1823). John, Elizabeth and Joseph are likely siblings of Ann Norris born Walton. | 1841 Census | ||||
| Another potential sibling of Ann is the Mary Walton who married William Ainscough in 1834. | Marriage | ||||
| William Ainscough died in 1841, and Mary remarried, to Henry Riding in 1848, witnessed by a James Cannon and Ann Norris (no doubt the Ann Norris born Walton that we are investigating). Note that Mary's father is given as John Walton, so this Mary Walton is a further sibling of Ann. | Marriage | ||||
| This James Cannon is found in the 1851 census with his wife Elizabeth aged 34 born (c. 1816) in St. Helen, Lancs. Along with John Walton, shoemaker, widower, aged 70, born (c. 1780) in Windlow [probably Windle] Lancs. Elizabeth is certainly Elizabeth Walton, daughter of John Walton above. | 1851 Census | ||||
| James Riding and his wife Mary born Walton are found in the 1871 census, Mary aged 61, born (c. 1809) in St. Helen, Lancs. | 1871 Census | ||||
| The 1841 census has yet another Walton, Thomas, a schoolmaster, aged 30+, wife Mary 40, Thomas aged 6, and three further children - Mary 15, Theresa 10 and William 10 Houghton. | 1841 Census | ||||
| Thomas Walton married Mary Hoghton in Liverpool in 1834. | Marriage | ||||
| This same Thomas Walton died in 1848 aged 42 (born c. 1806). | Death | ||||
| So we have the following children of John Walton, shoemaker, b. c1780, and Ann b. c. 1790 - Thomas c. 1806, Mary c. 1809, John c. 1815, Elizabeth c. 1816, Ann c. 1818, Joseph c. 1823. There could well be more, but records of baptisms for these children has not been found so far. | |||||
| It is more than likely that Ann's parents were the John Walton, cordwainer and Ann Shepherd who married in Holy Trinity, Liverpool in 1803. | Marriage | ||||
| So the mother of Richard Norris (26), | |||||
| Ann Walton (53), born in 1818 in St. Helens, | |||||
| married to Richard Norris (52) in 1837 in Liverpool?, | PP_52 | ||||

| Ann Shepherd? (107). | |||||
